ECO FASHION

Last week I saw an exhibition called 'Eco Fashion'.
The exhibition featured many new designers turning not so expected materials into everyday fashion. While this is not something new, I was quite impressed with how interesting and fashionable the work was. Bags and clutches knitted from colourful plastic bags, hemp jersey that was super soft and denim made into writing paper!

WEDDING DRESS

Wrapping up Berlin Fashion Week was 'WEDDING DRESS'.

This was no bridal show, but a two-day event jam-packed with buzzing new and emerging designers showcasing their latest collections in an open stall setting. 

It was great to be surrounded by beautiful clothing and chatting to the new fashion graduates, while outdoors was an ongoing fashion parade with onlookers looking super-stylish.

SADAK SASA KOVACEVIC

Looking at the students work on exhibition outside the parade was just as impressive - here are some of my favorite picks from SADAK SASA KOVACEVIC, who I love for their abstract designs and specialty textiles. 

These Mustard-yellow pieces were best seen up close for their individual detailing. Such clever work of the 2D 'jacket' design that knitted into the fabric on the left, and the hand-stitched bubbly shirring lining the jacket in the centre, and the intricate stitching of the pocket welts and french seams playing important character to the sheer jacket on the right. Beautiful work!!!

SEE FASHION 10 - FASHION STUDENTS SHOWCASE

Two things that German designers do well are experimental cuts and tailoring. They are never scared to break the traditional rules of flattering the human form. It was refreshing to see some young blood do justice to that reputation at the fashion parade held for the students at Weißeensee school of art.

Meet Ariam - Odili, the friendly and self-taught designer behind this pop up showroom as part of Bread & Butter. Choosing an art gallery to show his latest range fit quite well - with each piece being so individual and like wearable art. browsing through the racks I saw screen prints taken from old photographs of his family, patchwork details, intricate hand stitching, as well as lucky charms attached to cheer you up on rainy days. visit www.ariam-odili.com
